THE GAITHERSBURG FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION was founded in 1976 as a small group of artists residing in Gaithersburg and has grown over the years to include members throughout Montgomery County. GFAA provides educational programs, promotional opportunities, multiple exhibits during the year, and outreach to local audiences.

Deborah Maklowski on Art in Colored pencil
Deborah’s presentation will draw on the knowledge she’s gained during her 20 years’ professional experience working in colored pencil—including eight years on the national board of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA). Speaking on behalf of CPSA, she will provide a brief overview of that organization. She’ll then cover the types of colored pencils available and how they’re made and will review some of the many and varied surfaces used by CP artists in their practice. She’ll offer valuable working tips and techniques, explore the possibilities of CP and mixed media, and provide a list of useful equipment, tools, and resources. She’ll conclude by showing a collection of remarkable and stunning colored pencil artwork culled from past CPSA exhibitions, artwork that’s guaranteed to have you repeating over and over, “I can’t believe that’s colored pencil!”

This will be one category. PHOTOGRAPHY is a picture taken with a camera or phone, and possibly modified with digital software. DIGITAL ART is made with the use of software. AI generated art is not accepted and the copyright for the whole or any part of the artwork must belong to the artist!
