THE GAITHERSBURG FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION was founded in 1976 as a small group of artists residing in Gaithersburg and has grown over the years to include members throughout Montgomery County. GFAA provides educational programs, promotional opportunities, multiple exhibits during the year, and outreach to local audiences.

DOROTHY MCDONOUGH MCGEORGE
What is Dynamic Symmetry? Where did the idea of using this classical approach in the composition of a work come from? Dorothy will be using examples of work by Eduard Degas, Edward Hopper, Richard Diebenkorn and Willem de Kooning to explain its use.
Dorothy is a native Washingtonian, who has returned to the area after eleven years in NewMexico. She paints in oil on canvas. The subject of her work is often structures that reflect thecharacter of a place and perspectives that transform colors and shapes of surfaces through direct sunlight and shadow. She has an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from Saint Mary’s College of Maryland, a degreein Art Education from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Painting from the University of Nebraska.

What creates a dynamic figurative work of art? Explore the meaning of classical realism and abstraction in figure drawing. Lessons, in contrast, linking the representational to the abstract, this lecture will explore historical and modern works of art representing the human figure.
Susan holds a BFA from the University of Michigan and graduate studies with internationally recognized instructors at the University of Michigan, Rhode Island School
of Design, Corcoran School of Art, Studio Incaminati in Philadelphia, and The Art League. Susan's years of diverse experience have
honed her artist's eye and provided varied opportunities to exhibit her work and teach internationally.
