THE GAITHERSBURG FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION was founded in 1976 as a small group of artists residing in Gaithersburg and has grown over the years to include members throughout Montgomery County. GFAA provides educational programs, promotional opportunities, multiple exhibits during the year, and outreach to local audiences.
What makes a portrait memorable?
A likeness is important, but pictorial expression is at its core. Ken will talk about how to observe and express the head accurately and with emotion. Gesture, planar structure, anatomy, color/value, and composition will be discussed. Ken is a former assistant professor of art at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA, and a former associate professor of art at Prince George’s Community College, Largo, MD, where he taught for over 15 years. He teaches many classes at the Yellow Barn in Glen Echo.
